This autumn/winter the obvious berry trend is back but some stalwart trends were on the catwalks, like black flicked eyeliner. I think my favourite trend is the velvet skin, I think is very natural and polished.
Glowing, dewy skin is taken a back seat this season but skin’s not matte, it’s somewhere in between. I think velvet skin is more natural than dewy and matte skin. For the perfect velvet skin, foundation and powder is needed, you can use a foundation which leaves skin looking natural, something like Revlon Nearly Naked gives very natural light to medium coverage, Chanal Vita Lumiere Aqua also has a similar effect. To finish the look a dusting of powder, Soap and Glory’s One Heck of a Blot, mattifies skin without being cakey.
Cara Delevingne brows are back for another season, the models at the Chloe and Rochas shows had bold, statement brows. For brows I really like very fine pencils, the Anastasia Brow Wiz is brilliant but that’s only available from Cult Beauty so it might be difficult to pick a shade but the Clinique Superfine Brow Liner is similar and more widely available. To set brows, I really the Benefit Speed Brow which sets brows and tints brows slightly. If you prefer powder for brows, I don’t think you go wrong with Sleek Brow Kit.
Black flicked eyeliner is never off trend, it’s a classic beauty look that never dates. I think the easiest and quickest way to get the prefect flick is pen style eyeliners, Soap and Glory’s Supercat is a proper black and the pen is the perfect shape and size.
Berry, Matte Lips
Berry shades are always on trend when it comes to autumn/winter. This year, the shades were berry, wine tones and matte. Matte lips can be very drying and a little uncomfortable to wear and during the winter months, lips are usually dry and chapped so preparing the lips is essential to pulling this look off. Before attempting a statement lip, I think it’s best to exfoliate the lips to get rid of any rough skin, my preferred method is Eight Hour Cream and a cotton bud but you can buy lip exfoliators (Lush make a range) and then a layer of lip balm, my new favourite is the Maybelline Baby Lips in Intense Repair. Matte lipstick doesn’t sit well on lip balm so it’s best to remove all the excess so the lip is clean and ready for colour. Bobbi Brown’s Creamy Matte Lip Colour in Crushed Plum is gorgeous.
This season’s eye make-up is not the faint hearted, proper bold eyes were on were seen at many of the shows. The models at Gucci wore red shadow, at Jason Wu purple shimmer were on the lids and at J Mendel a full on bronze shimmer, almost glittering tone was the look.
