Now we’re over Christmas and spring is in sight, it’s time to start thinking about the colours which will be gracing our nails in the spring and summer.
Bright yellow, blue and orange
Burberry went for yellow, bright orange was the polish of choice for Just Cavelli. Prabel had bright blue, I think Nails Inc. Baker Street is the perfect shade to follow this trend. For yellow, I would go for Nails Inc.’s Carnaby Street. If you prefer orange, Essie’s Bright Tights is a shade you’ll need sunglasses for.
Nude based pastels
Osman Yousefzada chose to reinvent the good old pastel nail polish for the summer. Instead of using the traditional pastel shades, polishes with a nude or white based with a pastel hue were used. Later this year, L’Oreal will launch a range of polishes perfect for this trend. For further details on the polishes, see British Beauty Bloggers’s post (http://www.britishbeautyblogger.com/2014/01/loreal-paris-color-riche-nails-spring-2014.html). If you don’t want to wait for the L’Oreal offerings, try Essie’s Ballet Slippers which a white based pale pink or Absolutely Shore which is a white based mint green or if you prefer a lilac hue, try Models Own’s Utopia.
Tom Ford and Temperley shunned brights and nail art for natural nails. It’s not the most fun trend but easy to achieve but I think its important to keep nails looking clean and polished so a clear polish for a sheen and tidy cuticles look great.
Nina Ricci and Ellie Saab proved metallic shades can look just as good in spring as autumn and winter. Ricci used metallic silver, while Saab went for metallic grey. To follow this trend, I’ll definitely be using my trusty Orly Rage.
Plain white polish made a bit of an appearance last summer but this year its going to be big news. Kate Spade has white nails with various colours on the tip but Charlotte Ronson had black polka dots on white nails. I’m not a massive fan of just white nails, I prefer a glitter or feather top coat over the top to liven it up a bit. My favourite white polish is Floral Street, it’s a true white and it doesn’t turn yellow like some white polishes.
What trends will you be trying this Spring?
