The Best Christmas Nail Polishes*

nails inc christmas nail polishes

Every year nail brands launch some Christmassy themed nail polishes and without a doubt the best come from Nails Inc. They’ve launched two snowflake nail polishes and I’m in love with the. I can’t stop looking at them in the bottles or on my nails.

nails inc kensington church street

First is Kensington Church Street which is a clear base with white circles and silver glitter to look like snowflake.  It look amazing over red nail polish, I think it would be perfect for Christmas day. I’ve also tried it over Nails Inc. Porchester Square which is the perfect nude shade and it looks amazing, really understated and chic. I’ll have posts coming up on both looks.

nails inc whitechapel

Next is Whitechapel which is a gorgeous mix of white circles and gold glitter. This is so festive, I love it! I think this looks amazing over a darker shade, I’ve tried it with Tate from Nails Inc. which is a deep red/berry shade and it looks stunning, really classic.

I love both of these polishes, I think they’re perfect for you’re festive manicure or a stock filler for someone, I can’t imagine anyone would be disappointed to receive these on Christmas morning.

A Tigi Christmas

tigi christmas 2014 colour charge resurrection

I think if you’re going to give hair care as a Christmas present, Tigi is one of the best brands to go for. Most people recognise Tigi because it’s sold in a lot of salons so they know it’s a quality product and there really is a gift for everyone in Tigi line.

The brand has recently launched their Christmas gift sets and I have a couple to show and some information on other sets available.

I have the Resurrection Kit which is the shampoo and conditioner duo of the Urban Antidotes in Level 3. I think this would be a perfect gift for someone who already uses the duo or maybe for someone who needs to give their hair a little bit of TLC after colouring and heat styling. It’s priced at £18.95 but the products are worth £24.95 and it’s available from here.

I also have the Colour Charge Duo which is the shampoo and conditioner for coloured hair. The products contain sweet almond oil to nourish and smooth the hair cuticle. Also the products smell like caramel. It’s priced at £19.95 but it’s worth £29.90 and it’s available from here.

There are also a couple of other gift sets in the line.

 tigi christmas 2014 party girl

First is the Party Girl gift set. It’s priced at £29.95 but it’s worth £45.85. It contains full sizes of the After Party which is a frizz smoothing cream, a full size Headrush which is a shine spray and a full Masterpiece hairspray. It’s available from here.

tigi christmas 2014 rise and shine

The last gift I have to show you is Rise and Shine which as the name suggests is designed for achieving big hair. It contains a full size Oh Bee Hive Dry Shampoo and a full size Headrush Shine Spray. Together both products are worth £29.90 but the gift is priced at £19.95. It’s available from here.

The brand has a few other gift sets, I really think there is a hair set for everyone from Tigi. Look Fantastic has all of the gift sets I think so I really recommend checking out the site.

Book Review: I Heart Christmas by Lindsey Kelk

I Heart Christmas by Lindsey Kelk with title

Every Christmas, I trawl Waterstones for new Christmas books, not for gifts, for me to read to get in the festive mood (not that I need any help!). I already have a quite a few Christmas paperbacks but I always look for new releases. At Christmas I look for really cheery, humorous Christmas stories.
I Heart Christmas is latest instalment of the Angela Clarke series by Lindsey Kelk. I didn’t realise this book was part of a series, I don’t usually buy random books from a series because I like to start at the first book. However, it didn’t matter that I hadn’t read any other books because the story is easy to pick up.

Angela Clarke loves Christmas, she’s planned her perfect Christmas in New York. She’s planned everything from the tree and dinner to treats from Marks and Spencer to remind her of home and everything seems to be perfect until her life starts to change. Firstly, she gets promoted then she moves house and just when she thinks life is hectic enough, her friends and family turn up on her doorstep.

I really liked this book. I read it over two days because I found very easy to keep reading, I thought it was charming and humorous, especially the air vent situation. I really liked how festive it is. Some Christmas books aren’t that Christmassy but this is really festive and I loved the descriptions of New York. The characters are very easy to like, I particularly liked the passages involving Angela friends, Louisa and Jenny.

I thought this book was really enjoyable and I intend to read more Lindsey Kelk’s books.

Have you read any of the I Heart series? What do you think?

Barry M Tinsel Town

Barry M Tinsel Town with title 2

Barry M Tinsel Town with title 3

This nail polish combines two of my favourite things – Barry M nail polish and glitter! I would love to stay I only wear glitter at Christmas but I love glitter nail polishes all year but this is the most perfect festive glitter. Normal gold and silver glitters are lovely but this looks like someone chopped up multi coloured tinsel and suspended it in clear nail polish. I love it, in the light it’s super sparkly and eye catching. I do have a little tip for applying it, I doesn’t apply very well if you paint it on like a normal polish i.e. in strokes, its better to dot it one because it guarantees a good coverage is glitter. Stroke application puts very few particles on the nail so it’s almost clear.

I’ve only been able to find this is Boots, I think it may be an exclusive. If you want it, I think you’ll need to be fast because it is limited edition for Christmas. There is also a silver version. It’s £3.99.  http://www.boots.com/en/Barry-M-Limited-Edition-Nail-Paint_1388211/

Holly Jolly Christmas Tag

Which do you like better: Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?

I love both. I love Christmas Eve because of anticipation of the bog day and I love Christmas Day because atmosphere of Christmas and family and presents!

Is your tree real or fake?

Fake, I know real trees are lovely but they make a mess and sometimes they look a bit awful by the time Christmas comes.

When does your family put up your Christmas tree and who decorates it?

I love decorating the Christmas tree, I decorate the tree on December 1st.

Are you a pro-present wrapper, or do you fail miserably?

I have a problem when it comes to stationery, I really enjoy picking my wrapping paper and accessories and I enjoy wrapping gifts and making them look pretty with ribbon and tags.

Are you guilty of peeking at your presents or do you like the surprise?

I never look at my presents or try to guess, I enjoy the surprise in Christmas.

Would you rather live in a gingerbread house or in Santa’s Workshop?

Santa’s workshop!

Tell us your Christmas Eve traditions!

I like to spend the day watching Christmas films and doing last minute preparations and I paint my nails with something super festive for the next day.

What tops your tree?

A star.

What are some foods and treats you can count on having every holiday season?

I love the Costa Gingerbread Latte, I love ginger flavoured snacks, especially ginger muffins. I also love hot chocolate, I drink it all year but somehow it tastes better at Christmas time!

How has Christmas kept its magic for you as you’ve grown older?

Yes, I still love Christmas, I love everything about Christmas and I’m a little sad when it’s all over for another year.

Santa Hat Nail Art

Santa Hat Nail Art with title
This is the easiest Christmas nail art in world! I used Nails Inc. St James for the red hat but you can use any red nail polish. You need to draw a triangle shape for the hat. To control the shape, make sure the brush doesn’t too much polish on it because it will stop the polish from going everywhere. For the white detailing, I used the Rimmel Nail Tip Whitener and the Bourjois Dotting Tool.

Snowman Nail Art

snowman nail art with title

Snowman Nail Art
I’m not the best at nail art but I do like doing basic designs. This is my attempt at a snowman nail art design. I’ve used the Rimmel nail tip whitener for the base. I used this white because its the only one I own. On top of the white, I applied the Rimmel glitter top coat, the glitter isn’t necessary but I like it because it gives the frosty dimension of snow. I love the Rimmel glitter top coat because the brush is really wide and the glitter applies really well because its a fine glitter not a chunky glitter. Also, I fine quite difficult to find good glitter top coats. I used the Rimmel Black Cab for the coal for the eyes and smile and for the carrot I used Rimmel Tangy Tangerine but any alternatives would work.

I hope you like this design and I’m attempt to upload more easy Christmas designs. Also, let me know of any other good glitter top coats, I’m always looking for new glitter top coats!

My Favourite Christmas Reads #1

I’m a bit of bookworm, I’ve always got a book on the go but at Christmas I dig out my favourite Christmas books and curl up on the sofa with a cup of hot chocolate and engross myself in a Christmas story. I will read any book set at Christmas time so I apologise for the lengthy list!

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

An oldie but a goodie. I don’t anyone who doesn’t the film or the book. Everyone probably knows the story but I think its really Christmassy and the ending is heart warming.

The Gift by Cecelia Ahern

If you find A Christmas Carol too old fashioned or difficult to get through, try this book. It’s pretty much a modern day telling of a Christmas Carol. Its about a business executive at Christmas in Dublin who is shown the error of his ways. Like all of Ahern’s books, The Gift is beautifully written and perfect for reading during the festive period.

Winter Solstice by Rosamunde Pilcher

I like this book but I will admit it begins a bit depressing but then it gets better and becomes more festive. Its not my favourite of the bunch but every year I end reading it.

There’s Something About Christmas by Debbie Marcomber

A writer who hates fruit cake is sent by her editor to cover a fruit cake competition but finds love on the way. If you by  don’t like romantic, Christmas tales, you definitely won’t like this but I think Christmas is the best time of year to read books like this!

Christmas At The Cupcake Café and Christmas at Rosie Hopkins’ Sweet Shop by Jenny Colgan

Jenny Colgan has written a series of books but these two are set Christmas time. I’m big fan of Jenny Colgan, I like her writing style and she always writes charming stories and I find I can’t stop reading them once I start. Christmas At The Cupcake Café is the story of Issy Randall, she prepares herself for Christmas at her café but at the same time she has to deal with the possibility of her boyfriend moving to New York. Christmas At Rosie Hopkins Sweet Shop is a similar story, Rosie Hopkins owns a sweet shop but her Christmas is disrupted by a local disaster and the possibility of her boyfriend moving to Australia.

I have more favourite reads but I think I better leave it there for now but I will do a second post. In the comments, let me know what your favourite Christmas reads are or recommend me some new ones.

My Favourite Christmas Films

One of my hobbies, aside from beauty, is movies and cinema. Christmas is the perfect time of years to watch loads of films and eat too much chocolate. I love any film which is remotely about Christmas but these are my favourites.

Love Actually

I’m a big Richard Curtis fan and this my favourite film from him. I love everything about this film, I think this is best Christmas film of recent times. Firstly, the cast is amazing, it has Emma Thompson, Colin Firth, Liam Neeson, Alan Rickman and Hugh Grant. Secondly, London looks absolutely stunning, I love seeing London at Christmas time on film, I just think its beautiful. The plot is made up of several different stories and the various characters interlink in someway during the film.

Miracle on 34th Street

I like both versions of this film but I do prefer the 1994 version, mainly because I grew up in the 1990s. The film is pretty much about believing in Christmas but its really charming and there are lots of lovely scenes of New York at Christmas.

The Muppet Christmas Carol

There are a few versions of A Christmas Carol but this is my favourite.

The Santa Clause Trilogy

I really like the trilogy of Santa Clause films with Tim Allen but no-one ever mentions these films.

Look Who’s Talking Now

I know these films have been panned in reviews but I love them. The final film is a continuation of the previous two films and it’s not technically about Christmas but it is set at Christmas time so it counts!

What are your favourite Christmas films?

Winterlicious Tag

Today is the first day of December so I am going to try to do lots of Christmas themed posts. To start the month I thought I would do the Winterlicious Tag because I like watching this tag on Youtube so I decided to answer the questions.

Favourite Winter Nail Polish

I have lots of favourites because I love nail polish but my current favourites are Essie’s Bahama Mama which is gorgeous deep berry shade. I also really like Barry M’s Berry Cosmo which is a darker version of Bahama Mama. I also love glitter shades at this time of year, my favourite so far is, Rimmel Space Dust in Aurora.

Favourite Winter Lip Product

Lip balm is a must have for me all year but especially at winter, my favourite is Nuxe Reve De Meil, I love it! For lip colours, I don’t think I suit dark shades but I do think the Revlon Lip Butter is Berry Smoothie, it’s really comfortable and its quite sheer.

Favourite Christmas Scent

Yankee Candle Seasons of Peace.

Favourite Winter Drink

I love Costa winter drinks, my favourites are the Chocolate and Orange Mocha and the Gingerbread Latte.

All Time Favourite Christmas Movie

Any film with Christmas I love but my favourites are Love Actually, Miracle On 34th Street and the Santa Clause films.

Favourite Christmas Song

I really like the Christmas songs from Darlene Love and bands like The Ronettes and The Crystals and like most people, I like the classic Christmas songs like Slade and Wham!

Favourite Holiday Food

Christmas dinner, I know its an obvious answer but Christmas is the only time of the year you have a ridiculously huge dinner!

Favourite Holiday Treats

Gingerbread Muffin from Costa.

This year there has been a lot of beauty gift sets I would like to receive and books and Cath Kidston goodies.

Most worn winter accessory?

This year it has to be my huge Zara Scarf and gloves I bought from Accessorize.
