A few months ago I posted about the exciting new products from Nails Inc. using the superfood kale to nourish and hydrate nails. I’m always a bit sceptical when it comes to claims by brands but I trust Nails Inc. and I’m obsessed by nails so I decided to conduct a little experiment of my own with the Nailkale Base Coat.
I’ve used the basecoat every time I painted my nails since I received it back in September. I made a point of using no other base coat or treatment product on my nails to see if it really did have an effect. Since I’ve been using the base coat I have noticed my nails have been stronger and I’ve particularly noticed my nails no longer flake. I didn’t have a huge issue with flaking but occasionally I would go through a period of my nail flaking, probably because I paint my nails so often but I haven’t had flaking since September. Also I’ve noticed my nails are more flexible, if I catch one of my nails, it doesn’t just snap, it bends and resists breaking. Finally, I’m sure my nails are growing faster than usual. There are no claims that this product will increase nail growth but I think my nails are growing quicker because the product is hydrating.
Overall, I’m hugely impressed with this base coat and I really recommend it.
PR Sample but this is my honest opinion of the product, I wouldn’t say I like something unless I really did.
Have you tried it? What do you think? Would you try it?
Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer was my holy grail concealer and while I still love it, the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer has taken the top spot. I bought it last year when it first launched and I immediately loved it but I wanted to make sure I loved it enough to repurchase it and I did, last week I ordered my second one.
Firstly, I love this concealer because of the wide shade range. As usual, I have the lightest shade which is Chantilly, all of the shades are named after yummy foodstuffs. Chantilly is a really pale, slightly cool toned shade. This is great all round concealer, it has really high coverage which is great for under eye dark circles and it’s really brightening. It also works for covering redness, somehow it manages to cover without highlighting these areas, it’s like magic! I use this everyday under my eyes and it never creases or looks cakey. It lasts really well, it doesn’t fade or rub off during the day. It comes with a doe foot applicator which I know isn’t the most hygienic but if you’re only using it under your eyes, it’s probably fine unless you have blemishes. If you do use it on blemishes, I would put it on the back of my hand and use a brush to avoid spreading germs.
I know it’s expensive but for me it’s worth every penny. I’ve been using this with the Radiant Tinted Moisturiser and it’s the perfect base duo and I can’t recommend it enough. I have a post coming soon about the Tinted Moisturiser so watch out for that one.
Have you tried it? What do you think?
I have a problem with mascaras. If a new mascara launches, I can’t stop myself from buying it because I’m always looking for the mascara.
Lately Bourjois has been churning out some really amazing launches, I love the CC Cream, I have a few of the Nude Collection nail polishes and I love the One Second Nail Polish Remover for toes. This mascara is one of the latest launches and when I spotted the One Seconde Mascara on the ASOS website I couldn’t resist buying it and I love it! The wand is really unusual, it’s a plastic wand which I’m not usually a fan of but this is an exception. The bristles are quite short which makes it great for getting down to the root of the lashes. In between the bristles, there are rows of little spheres which coats the lashes in one stroke.
I have the waterproof version because I prefer waterproof mascaras, I think this gives amazing volume and length and it holds a curl fantastically. It does not smudge, run or flake off. I’ve seen it being compared to Benefit’s They’re Real on Twitter but I would say it’s better, I didn’t like They’re Real but I love this. I think this is the best drugstore volumising mascara I’ve tried in a long time!
There is currently £3 off the mascara at the moment in Boots so it’s a perfect time to try. http://www.boots.com/en/Bourjois-Volume-1-Seconde-mascara_1471322/
If you read my blog regularly, you’ll know I have real problem with dry, chapped lips and I’m always on the hunt for the perfect lip balm. I do really like the Clinique Superbalm Lip Treatment but I just think it’s a little expensive for a tiny tube.
La Roche-Posay is one of my favourite brands, I really like French skincare brands, I think the quality is incredible and the prices are pretty reasonable. This balm is a barrier repairing balm for chapped and cracked lips. Its a proper balm, it’s quite matte so it’s good for men too. It doesn’t look shiny or glossy and it has no scent. I’ve been using this countless times a day for around a week and I think its incredible. My lips feel a lot more hydrated and the cracks have almost gone. I really like this lip balm, I think it’s the best I’ve bought and it’s only £5. I’ve only been able to find it on the Escentual website but I’ve heard its in some Boots stores. I really recommend Escentual, it’s one of my favourite beauty websites, it has lots of French skincare brands and the delivery service is incredible, postage is super fast.
Its £5 for 7.5ml http://www.escentual.com/la-roche-posay/lrpcicaplast002/
Following on from yesterday’s post, here are some products which definitely did not disappoint and worth the hype.
Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer
This is the only concealer I repeatedly repurchase, I try others and sometimes they’re amazing but I always return to this one. It covers everything, dark circles, blemishes and redness without looking dry or cakey or creasing. I love this concealer.
Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish
I’ve never known anyone to dislike Cleanse and Polish. This cleanser will remove every bit of makeup in one go and it feels nice on the skin, it doesn’t feel harsh or like it’s stripping the skin of moisture and oils.
Benefit Dandelion Blush
I love this blusher, it’s a really pretty baby pink that looks gorgeous on paler skin tones.
YSL Faux Cils Mascara
I rarely splurge in High End mascaras because I have an addiction to buying mascaras and there is always a new launch on the high street so I usually have quite a large collection to work through. However, this is an amazing mascara, it looks like you’re wearing false eyelashes, the wand is a perfect size to catch every lash. If you have a special occasion or an event, I really recommend buying this.
Clinique Chubby Sticks For Eyes
I have Bountiful Beige and Lots O’ Latte, these are the only shades in the line I would wear (although I do like Fuller Fudge) but the formula is incredibly, it does not crease or wear off. I really like the eyeshadows sticks because they’re super easy and are great for on the go.
When it comes to foundation I’m difficult to please. Like everyone I want foundation to look natural, last on my skin and most importantly match my skin tone (if I’m paying a lot for a foundation I want it to be perfect). All of these foundations I really like, a couple of them I can’t use because the shade range doesn’t go pale enough for my skin but if it did I would definitely wear it.
YSL Teint Touche Eclat
I’m the shade BR10 which is a super pale shade which is slightly cooler toned. I love the finish of this foundation, it’s really dewy and healthy and just amazing. It’s really comfortable on the skin, it feels hydrating and moisturising. It does get a little shiny on me after a few hours but some powder soon gets rid of that.
Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation
If you want a really natural looking foundation, I think this is perfect because as the name suggests it looks like Skin. The shade range is huge I think pretty much everyone can get a match.
Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua
I really like this foundation but I don’t think the shade range is impressive, the lightest shade is too yellow and too dark for me. The coverage is very sheer, almost like a tinted moisturiser. Its great for oily skin because it’s water based and looks super natural. I wish I could wear this because it feels so light on the skin, it’s like you’re not wearing makeup.
If you want perfect skin and a dewy finish this is perfect, it looks just gorgeous on the skin but again the lightest shade is slightly too dark for me.
Laura Mercier Silk Crème Foundation
I really, really like this foundation because you can apply a tiny amount for light coverage or you can really build up it up for full coverage. It doesn’t look cakey or heavy at all. The finish is natural but dewy.
What’s your favourite high end foundation?
I think there are some great cheaper foundations but there is a lot of horrible cheap foundations. I’ve tried loads over the years and some of them I really like and use. There are others I like but unfortunately I can’t use them because they don’t go pale enough for my skin (I’m super pale!).
Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation Serum
I really like this foundation, it has medium coverage, the finish is natural but dewy and it is most suited to normal and skin leaning towards being dry. I prefer this one to the Radiance Reveal and I do use it but it’s slightly too dark for my skin.
Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation
This is perfect for anyone who wants light coverage that looks just like skin. Lovely runny consistency which blends really easily and lasts well. As always with Revlon, there is a really selection of shades. My only issue is the lack of a pump dispenser, the bottle gets quite messy and you end wasting product. The pale shades go pretty pale, the lightest shade kinda matches me but it’s not perfect but I can definitely get away with it and I use it regularly.
Rimmel Match Perfection
This a brilliant basic foundation, it doesn’t claim to be long lasting or have skin care properties or give a glow. Its just a simple foundation and for that it’s great, it has medium coverage and lasts pretty well. I’m particularly impressed by the pale shade because it’s really pale and it’s a really good match for my skin!
L’Oreal True Match
A lot of bloggers say this is a dupe for Armani Luminous Silk, I’m not so sure but it’s a great foundation. It comes in a really wide range of shades which is amazing, even I can get a match! The coverage is really buildable, you can use just a little bit for light coverage but you can easily get medium coverage without it looking cakey or heavy. The finish is lovely, it’s not dewy but it gives the skin a lovely sheen. I really recommend this foundation.
