Everyday Face #1

everyday makeup with title

I go through phases of wearing the same makeup everyday before I finally change the products in my makeup. Until today, these products have been pretty much the only products I’ve been wearing so I thought I would give you quick rundown of what I’ve been wearing.

Illamasqua Skin Base has became my holy grail foundation, it’s really buildable and it’s not at all heavy or cakey on the skin. I particularly love this foundation because it is one of the few foundations which is pale enough for me. For my under eye dark circles, I love the Nars Creamy Concealer. It’s the definitely the best concealer I’ve ever tried and it’s worth all the hype. For blush, I’ve gone back to my trusty Benefit Dandelion. I’ve used this blusher for years and I still love it. It’s perfect for a really subtle pink flush and it’s not too bright or too shimmery. For eyes, I’ve been apply a wash of Benefit’s Creaseless Cream in Birthday Suit, it’s a lovely grey bronze shade that’s perfect for everyday and it doesn’t budge. I’ve also been using the Rimmel Scandaleyes Kohl Kajal in black to tightline my eyes to make my lashes look thicker and finally a few coats of the Rimmel Scandaleyes mascara. I do like this mascara but it’s not one of my favourites, I’m just trying to use up all the mascaras in my stash!. For lips, I’ve been loving the Revlon Lacquer Balm in Damsel, it’s the most perfect pink nude, I know I’ll be repurchasing this when this one runs out.

Benefit Creaseless Cream in Birthday Suit

creaseless cream with title 1

After countless trips to the Benefit counter, I finally took the plunge and bought my first Creaseless Cream late last year and I can safely say it’s started an addiction. I always wanted Birthday Suit but I just felt £15.50 was a little too much for a cream eye shadow but I caved and bought it last November and I love it.

Firstly, I love the little cardboard box it comes in, I like the 1920s style packaging and I think it quite unique.

birthday suit

Birthday Suit is described as Brushed Chrome, I don’t think this description does the shade justice. It’s a really pretty light brown with a golden taupe undertone which makes a perfect all over the lid shade or a base for other shadows. It is quite shimmery and glitterly but it’s perfectly appropriate for day wear, it’s not over the top.

I wear this shade almost everyday and I can safely say it does not crease or fade during the day. It doesn’t set like other cream shadows but it’s still long lasting. These can be used as a liner too but I don’t think this shade works to line the eyes, I think the darker shades would be better.

I love this shadow and I’ve bought a couple more since this one and I really like them. Have you tried the Creaseless Creams?

My Favourite Blush: Benefit Box O’ Powder Dandelion

Dandelion with title

If you’ve read my blog before, you’ll know I love Benefit’s Dandelion blusher. It was the first high end blusher I bought and it was the blusher that made me realise I could wear blusher. I’m not the biggest blusher fan and I don’t wear it everyday but I own too many, I feel blush looks a little strange on my skin tone but this is my favourite and my go-to shade.

I’ve had my Dandelion blusher for years but during Christmas I dropped it and it smashed so I had to immediately replace it so I thought it was the perfect time to do a mini review because the packaging is pristine.

dandelion 2

Dandelion is a really pretty baby pink shade with a subtle silver shimmer. The pigmentation is perfect for me, it’s quite sheer and easy to blend and build up. For me, it’s a really easy shade to wear because it’s pretty difficult to apply too much. For reference, I’m super pale and I feel blusher doesn’t suit me, I think this blusher is perfect for paler people because it’s not a scary, bright shade and it looks really natural. On the packaging, it claims you can use it all over the face to brighten up the skin, I tried this but it doesn’t work for me. It think it’s look too shimmery and pink all over the skin but it might work for others.

The packaging of Benefit’s blusher are always a talking point. I like the packing of Dandelion but I do agree it’s not the best for throwing in a make up bag or travelling because it just cardboard but I do prefer this packaging to the earlier style (the lid used to come off completely, the lid is attached on this one). Dandelion, like all the Box O’ Powders, come with a mini brush.

Have you tried Dandelion? What’s your favourite blusher?

Disappointing Products #3

Just before the New Year, I went through my collection of beauty products and found some products which I don’t think are worth the hype. These are products that don’t work for me but I know a lot of people love these products so it’s just personal preference.

Benefit They’re Real

I’m a big Benefit but I just don’t get the hype about this mascara. I think one of the most important things about a mascara is the wand and I really don’t like the brush on this mascara. I’m not the biggest fan of plastic generally but I really don’t like the shape of this, it doesn’t grip my lashes at all. Also it’s a nightmare to remove.

MAC Face and Body

This foundation breaks me out really badly and I know it’s the same for a lot of people.

Benefit Stay Flawless Primer

Firstly, I don’t like the packaging or application method for this primer and it feels really tacky and I worry it will clog my pores.

Seche Vite Fast Drying Top Coat

I’m obessed with nail products but I have a really mixed opinion about this top cost. I like the glossy finish and quick drying but when I use it my nail polish chips within a day and that never happens to me. It’s good for a quick manicure but I prefer other top coats.

Emma Harding Moringa Cleansing Balm

I tried this during the great hype of cleansing balms and I realised I don’t like cleansing balms. I didn’t like this because I was allergic to it, my skin is quite sensitive and this just really aggravated it, I think it was the essential oils.

Are any of these products on your disappointing list? What are your disappointing products?

Products Worth The Hype #3

Following on from yesterday’s post, here are some products which definitely did not disappoint and worth the hype.

Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer

This is the only concealer I repeatedly repurchase, I try others and sometimes they’re amazing but I always return to this one. It covers everything, dark circles, blemishes and redness without looking dry or cakey or creasing. I love this concealer.

Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish

I’ve never known anyone to dislike Cleanse and Polish. This cleanser will remove every bit of makeup in one go and it feels nice on the skin, it doesn’t feel harsh or like it’s stripping the skin of moisture and oils.

Benefit Dandelion Blush

I love this blusher, it’s a really pretty baby pink that looks gorgeous on paler skin tones.

YSL Faux Cils Mascara

I rarely splurge in High End mascaras because I have an addiction to buying mascaras and there is always a new launch on the high street so I usually have quite a large collection to work through. However, this is an amazing mascara, it looks like you’re wearing false eyelashes, the wand is a perfect size to catch every lash. If you have a special occasion or an event, I really recommend buying this.

Clinique Chubby Sticks For Eyes

I have Bountiful Beige and Lots O’ Latte, these are the only shades in the line I would wear (although I do like Fuller Fudge) but the formula is incredibly, it does not crease or wear off. I really like the eyeshadows sticks because they’re super easy and are great for on the go.

Christmas Gift Guide #1

I love Christmas shopping and I always start early, partly because I love it and partly because the best gifts always sell out quick. From now until Christmas, I’m going to do a post a week on the best Christmas gifts out there.

Origins Mask Marvels £25

I don’t think anyone dislikes Origins, it’s a brilliant brand. All of their Christmas gifts are really nice but this is my favourite. This has three of the most famous Origins masks – Drink Up Intensive, Drink Up and Clear Improvement (all 75ml sizes, a full size is 100ml). I think this is perfect for anyone who takes an interest in skincare and its a great way to be introduced to the brand.

Benefit Little Love Potions £29.50

This is a great gift for someone just getting into makeup because it introduces someone to the best from Benefit.

L’Occitane Hand Cream Trio £22

Everyone loves L’Occitane hand creams, this set contains the famous Shea Butter hand cream, the Cherry Blossom and the Pivoine Flora scents. Each hand cream is 30ml.

Bobbi Brown Old Hollywood Brush Set £55

Christmas is pretty much the only time of the year you buy a brush set. Bobbi Brown always releases a brush set, this year’s it’s part of the Old Hollywood Collection. It contains a face blender brush, an eye sweep brush, an angled eyeliner/smokey eyeliner brush and a eyebrow brush all in a gorgeous case.

Benefit Christmas Gift Sets

I know it’s very early to be thinking about Christmas shopping but while I was looking on the John Lewis, I discovered Benefit’s Christmas gifts and I want every one of them.

Love Me B. Bright Skincare Gift Set £39.50

Contains It’s Potent Eye Cream (full size), Triple Performing Cleanser (full size), Triple Moisture Facial Cream (mini) and mini PoreFessional in a lovely reusable tin.

Badrageous £18.50

My favourite Benefit mascara, a full size Bad Gal and a mini size for £18.50 (the full size alone is £17.50).

Primed For Lovin’ Makeup Gift Set £44.50

Full size They’re Real, PoreFessional and High Beam and a mini Sugarbomb lip gloss in a pretty tin.

Love At First Shine £19.50

Set of six mini Ultra Plush lip glosses.

Luv It Up Eye Shadow and Lip Gloss

This set is at the top of Christmas list, this has the Dandelion lip gloss which I already have and love and three powder eye shadows (call my buff, nude sings and thanks a latte) and a cream eye shadow in RSVP.

Groovy Kind A Luv Makeup Gift Box

This set is second place on the my Christmas list. This has a mini PoreFessional, BeneTint and They’re Real and two little sections of Dandelion (my all time favourite blush) and Bella Bamba and four powder eye shadows and two applicators.

Little Love Potions £29.50

This set has ten mini products – It’s Potent, Hoola Bronzer and matching lip gloss, Watt’s Up, Bad Gal, PoreFessional, That Gal, High Beam, Stay Don’t Stray and Posietint.

I think this year’s Benefit sets are the best yet and if you know people who love beauty gifts, you could do all of your Christmas shopping in Benefit.

Some Thoughts on New Products

Autumn is one of the best times of the year for new launches, lots of new products hit the market and I immediately head to my nearest counter to have look. There have been several new products which have launched and I’ve really liked them but there have been reasons why I haven’t splashed out on them. Here is a quick rundown.

YSL Youth Liberator Foundation

This isn’t just a foundation, it contains YSL’s Youth Liberator serum to give you long term skincare benefits whilst wearing makeup. This is a proper full coverage foundation but it doesn’t look cakey or heavy, it leaves the skin with a dewy glow but not shiny. Everything about this foundation is lovely, the bottle is beautiful and the foundation itself is a really good product, my only issue was the lightest shade wasn’t light enough for me but if the shade suits you, I really, really recommend trying it, it’s beautiful.

Clarins Instant Concealer

Clarins make-up is fantastic quality, I absolutely adore the Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector and a few other products so I had to try this. It’s designed to cover dark circles but mimic the skin’s natural tones so it looks very natural. The texture is gorgegous, it’s perfect for under the eyes, it’s very moisturising and light in texture but it has amazing coverage and does not crease. However, the lightest shade was too dark for me but it’s amazing if you have dark circles.

Benefit Rockateur

Dandelion is one of the few blushes I own because I’m not a big blusher fan but Dandelion is just amazing. The rest of Benefit blushers don’t suit me but when this launched I had to try it because it looks beautiful in the box. However, it didn’t suit my very pale skin but I’ve seen it on other people and it looks lovely. As with all Benefit blushes, it’s very long-lasting and the pigmentation is really good and I think this would last you a really long time.

Bobbi Brown Luminous Moisturising Treatment Foundation

I love Bobbi Brown, it’s one of my absolute favourite brands and I’m never disappointed with the products. This latest foundation is no disappointment, I absolutely love it and the only reason I have bought it is because I have enough foundations and tinted moisturisers but this is on my wish list and it will be mine, eventually. If you want the dewy, luminous skin look but have normal to skin this is perfect, I have combination skin and I loved it. The shade range is absolutely fantastic and the finish and coverage is beautiful.

Bourjois Happy Light Foundation

I really like Bourjois foundations, I think they’re among the best foundations on the high street. This is a nice foundation but I’ve noticed the shades run darker than the rest of the foundations. In Healthy Mix, I’m 51 which is slightly too dark and too yellow but the lightest shade in this is way too dark.

L’Oreal Nude Magique Eau De Teint Foundation

Like a lot of foundations, this isn’t pale enough me, there is no way I could wear this foundation which is a shame because I really like it. The texture is very liquid, almost just like water which I like because I think the watery textures blend better and tend to look more natural. The consistency reminds me of Chanel Vita Lumiere Aqua. The coverage is light but buildable to medium and the finish is just like natural skin (your skin but better look) so it’s perfect if you don’t want to look like your wearing make-up. The rumours online were differently right, it’s almost identical to Armani Maestro so if you’re looking for a cheap dupe, look no further. It has SPF18 which means it does flash back so don’t wear it if your expecting flash photography. My only criticism is the limited shade range and it does oxidise slightly.
